The next video that I will be analysing will be haim the wire, the reason I am doing this video is because is a very similar style of song to the one I have chosen and the video is how I would like to do mine, the video is a mix of the 3 different type, there is performance, relation to the song in the video and also parts that don’t relate to the song at all, the cinematography in the video makes the women in the video look very strong, as all of the band members are women which is not follow the normal conventions of an indie rock band but they have done this to break the normal conventions.
The video, song and band where all released through the record label Polydor, a UK record label owned by UMG and it was released on the 12th of august lasting 4 minutes and 44 seconds. The ideology of the video is indie, you can tell this because the music is guitar based band that write their own songs and also have other conventions of an indie band, for example skinny jeans, leather and denim jackets. This band also breaks the conventions of normal bands as they are all women.
During the video that they preform it is mainly narrative, the video is about the girls not feeling the same about their boyfriends anymore and breaking up with them, which fits in with the lyrics of the song, the video also features the very popular Jorma Taccone who is part the internet band Lonely island and has also appeared in films such as Hot Rod.
The audience that this video is aimed at are mainly people aged 12-14, I think this is because they can gain a very wide audience due to their very catchy songs and the fact that they are all women will draw more girls to watch the video and listen to the music. But also the fact that they are a very popular song which could be through the fact that they are signed to a subsidiary of UMG which would have a very high budget for videos and recording songs.
The representations of the video are things like them wearing black jackets which could represent bad but underneath they are wearing white which could show that they are good underneath, I also represents that they are still normal people who have normal problem which they are trying to show to the audience. this conitates to the audience that they are an indie band. the band wearing skinny jeans could also act as a code, they may be wearing them to make people understand there music. for example if we saw a band that consisted of 4, 60 year old men we wouldn't think of them to be a good band, so through the use of conventions the band have shown us that they are a band by following the conventions that we would normally see.
normally when we see women in a music video they are being used to intise the male gaze, but in this video it uses binary opposites and role reversal, normally we see men dumping women and them being upset as women are seen as weak, but in this video it is the other way around, the women break up with the men and we see the men being very upset and crying. which goes against the codes and conventions of a normal music video and giving a different feel to the video making it very appealing to both men and women.

the song its self is about having to break up with someone, and what to do when doing it, the video does follow a naritive of the song but also goes against the conventions as it is the girls breaking up in the videi when normally we would think of the men to be doing this.
